Washington – Some 87.1% of retailers on planning online promotions for Cyber Monday, up from 83.7% last year and 72.2% in 2007.
Considered the kick-off day for online holiday shopping, Cyber Monday has also migrated to social networking sites, according to Shop.org., a division of the National Retail Federation. More than 700 Shop.org retailers will offer special deals at CyberMonday.com, through Facebook (www.facebook.com/shopcybermonday) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/shopcybermonday).
In addition, Shop.org retailers will text deal alerts (www.cybermonday.com/text) and award more than $250 in retail gift cards each day through Christmas.
In terms of deals being generated at retailers’ websites, the most popular promotions are expected to be specific deals (42.9%), one-day sales (32.9%), and free shipping on all purchases (15.7%). Half of retailers (50.0%) will distribute promotions and deals to shoppers through a special Cyber Monday email, according to a survey by BigResearch.
