Hollander debuts modern duvet collection

By Michele SanFilippo -- Home Textiles Today, 4/5/2004 12:00:00 AM

Hollander Home Fashions delved into duvet covers in a big way at last week's New York Home Textiles Market, with an entire area of its showroom devoted to eight new patterns in the collection.

The company also played up several themed bedding groups in its showroom for the first time. Even though it did not show juvenile patterns, the program will continue on a more customer-specific basis.

"It's a more modern, practical way of living, that is more versatile fashion-wise, with easier storage that lets you change your look," said Glenda Heffer, Hollander's design director.

Mason Carroll, new senior vice president of fashion bedding, added, "As a complete bedding resource, duvets are an important category for Hollander that provide a very functional, viable alternative to comforters. The American public is getting more exposed to duvets, so they need companies that will manufacture them for retailers."

The new duvet collection includes Urban Blossom, South Beach, Samba, Luxury Velour, Rosalind, Pacific, Sugar Cube and Carmen.

South Beach offers ribbon candy stripes on a kiwi ground with textured white buttons for a casual outdoorsy feel. Samba features a sand ground, with undertones of aqua, peach, sky and lime in a plaid, inspired from natural hues with plackets, tortoise shell buttons and fancy trims. Rosalind is an intricately drawn yarn-dyed red and gold etched single bloom floral with coordinating stripes in 100 percent cotton.

In addition, Hollander showed off new themed collections in its showroom.

The tour started with a Live Comfortably serenity-inspiring room that mixes luxury and designer basics with fashion looks, then moved into the Fiesta Latina group, then onto the Crossroads collection with four new beds: Romantic Revival with three new looks; Urban Oasis with four new beds; and Karen Neuburger with three new looks, ending in the duvet covers area.

"It's a sign of the times that we are looking at each bed on its own in terms of fashion, style-wise," said Heffer. The Fiesta Latina theme took root last market and has been expanded to include eight new patterns: Fiesta Siesta, La Playa, Rincon, Mosaic, Ibiza, Pina Colada, Paradise and Melina
