Eximpo exemplifies textile diversity

By Clark Aycock -- Home Textiles Today, 4/16/2001 12:00:00 AM

NEW YORK — Eximpo Inc. is a jack-of-all-trades newcomer to the New York Home Textiles Show.

Based in Plano, TX, with plants in Pakistan, the company is trying to broaden from an established base that serves mostly mail-order companies. President Behzad Sarhady said his company's presence at the show is aimed at getting his products into the mid-tier level retailers.

"Our goal is to expand, hire new reps. It's time for us to see what we can do down the road," he said.

Sarhady thinks that the experience of working for catalog and mail-order companies has prepared the company well to service a wide variety of retail accounts.

"If you can do mail order, you can do everything," he said.

And it seems as if the company, which has been around more than 30 years, does do it all. Through partnerships in Pakistan with manufacturers (Eximpo helped build a plant with Sitara Textiles, based in Faisalabad) and suppliers, the company was one of the first from that country to provide products such as quilts as well as bed-in-a-bag product that was already stuffed, Sarhady claimed.

The company's products run the gamut, from curtains, towels, bedding and dec pillows, done in many fabrics — muslin, cotton, percale, sateen — and counts — 180, 200, 230.
