CINCINNATI — Terry Lundgren, currently president and ceo of Federated Department Stores, will add the title of chairman come Jan. 15, succeeding James Zimmerman, who is retiring.

Becoming the company's seventh chairman/ceo, Lundgren was elected by Federated's board of directors at a meeting held last Friday. The company's five chairs — Thomas Cody, Tom Cole, Janet Grove, Susan Kronick and Ronald Tysoe — will continue to report to Lundgren, as they have since February.

Zimmerman was named chairman and ceo in 1997, having served as president and coo since 1988. He relinquished the ceo title to Lundgren in February of this year, when he announced his intention to retire within in the next 12 months .
