Diverse collections debut in Atlanta

ATLANTA -The following is a sampling of what buyers can expect to find at manufacturers' showrooms at this week's market.

Asia Minor Carpets Inc.

The four newly designed rugs from the new Oushak Collection, inspired by the Turkish town for which the collection is named, are all made of 100 percent Turkish hand-spun wool and colored with vegetable dye ($7,500 retail for a 9x12).

Burlington House Floor Accents

Greensboro, NC (336) 379-2926

Using advanced technology, Burlington has created the new Niya Collection-a 12-frame, 100 percent wool rug with highly saturated earth tones and higher price points ($799 for a 6x9).

The new Urban Nature collection, which is more contemporary, is made of 100 percent polypropylene ($399 for a 6x9).

And expanding on its kids collection, roomakers ($39.99 for a 3 foot by 3 inch x 4 foot 7 inch) features bright colors and "hip designs you'd see in kids' apparel," said vp and business manager Paul Kershaw.

Claire Murray

For the upscale handmade collection her company is known for among her clients, Claire Murray has designed three new floral and fruit collections.

Garden Lattice is a garden floral design that is "very colorful" and comes in both an off-white or dark background version and is 100 percent wool. The main size is 7x9, and the companion rug is 3x5.

The French Embroidery collection is inspired by antique silk embroidery and also comes in an off-white or dark background version.

The Orchard Collection also has a garden theme featuring orchards of apples, cherries, peaches, pomegranates and pears. It is 100 percent wool.

Company C

Company C is debuting many new lines at Atlanta, but it's top four, all 100 percent wool, include: Savannah, available in four colorways (brick, bay, grass and coffee) is hand-tufted in India; Frogs, an addition to the accents line, is hand-hooked in China; August, an addition to the garden area, is hand-hooked in China; and Celebration, which is hand-hooked in China.

Ebison Harounian Imports

Pursuing a "new look," Ebisons Harounian Imports is introducing two new collections. Nichols is reminiscent of 1920s Chinese styles and is 100 percent wool pile handmade in India (6x9 and 9x12). Antique Tabriz is handmade with 100 percent wool pile in India with antique patina (4x6 to 12x18).

828 International Trading Co.

Introducing handmade rugs for the first time, 828 International has created its Himalayan collection, made of 100 percent wool and featuring transitional designs ($399 for a 5x8).

Other new lines include the Sonnet series of English axminsters, which is being expanded with new designs with up to 70 colors ($999 for a 6x9) and Royal Treasures, which is also being expanded with new colors ($399 for a 5x8).

Foreign Accents

Foreign Accents isn't just introducing three new lines this year; it's also introducing two new collections of style-square hand-tufted and hand-knotted.

Odyssey is the name of the new line resulting from Foreign Accents' first square hand-tufted collection. An artist was commissioned to create the eight designs ($599 for a 6x6, $799 for a 6x8). Mirage is the 100 percent wool line emerging from the company's first hand-knotted collection. The eight designs are inspired by Foreign Accents' best-selling upholstery fabric designs ($1,399 for a 6x8). Africa, machinemade of 100 percent polypropylene in Belgium, keeps with the trend in animal prints and comes in four styles of zebra and leopard skins ($225 for a 6x8).

Hellenic Rug Imports

A new collection of hand-knotted rugs from Greece is inspired by pre-classical Greek motifs. New colors and designs are emerging from its Flokati line, as well as new Kids Floco rugs with rainbow styles. From its hand-woven berbers comes Hellenic's new Macedonia collection of reversible rugs. There are four new additions to the Room in a Bag kids line. European fabric borders are the newest feature on Hellenic's wool sisal rugs. New collections of machinemade rugs include those from Belgium ($349 for a classic 6x8, $399 for a 13-color cross-woven 6x8) and Greece ($399 for a 6x8). Finally, Hellenic is expanding its Indo-tufted rugs after having bought a manufacturing facility in India.

Boasting a "huge array" of new custom inlaid rug designs, Masland is showing a "sampling" at Atlanta. The designs are arranged in 13 levels, ranging from upscale simplicity to ornate designs embellished with detail. No further details were available at press time.

Milliken & Company

Two new rug collections debuting at Atlanta are giving Milliken a "brighter and bigger presence than ever before," spokeswoman Rachel Jackson said.

The Sculptique collection offers an antique color palette and a hand-carved look that is designed to match with any decor. The Painterly collection is made with Milliken's diffusion dye technology, combining more than 200 subtle colors with nuances of design. The initial offering includes 10 masterpieces from artists Cezanne, Monet, Gauguin, Renoir, among others.

Mohawk Rug & Textiles

Responding to consumer demand for higher quality and more fashion-forward product, Mohawk is introducing its new Symphony collection of 50 patterns of New Age, floral and classical Orientals ($199 to $299 for a 5x8).

Also new is the Velvet collection, featuring classical designs and stonewashed colors ($299 to $399 for a 5x8).

Momeni Inc.

Momeni turns 25 years old this year and is celebrating with a fete at its booth in Atlanta.

Momeni is also celebrating several new products being introduced at the show, especially its new rayon rugs. Titled the Beaux Arts collection, Momeni's new rayon rugs are made with tufted construction to give them a soft and silken look and feel. Its colors and designs are influenced by contemporary Oriental art.

Other new items include Java, a Tibetan weave rug made in China featuring earth tones; Mystic, the latest addition to Momeni's hand hooked collection; and Sarouk, a new tufted rug with a denser quality.

Noonoo Rug Company

Three new traditional designs for the existing Summit Collection will be added ($6,500 retail for a 6x9). Two new debuts will be made at Atlanta for the Excelsior Collection, made of an Indo-Nepalese weave ($435 for a 6x9).

Using 100 percent New Zealand, Nourison's new introductions include two pieces from its handmade and two from its powerloom collections.

Handmade: Tahoe features a relaxed elegant style in a hand-knotted design and comes in beige, peach and two shades of gold ($1,499 for a 6x9). Sahari is a luxurious wood pile accented with silken highlights that comes in multicolored, light green and two shades of beige ($499 for a 6x9).

Powerloom: Parthia features up to 30 colors, is hand-serged and comes in khaki, rust, two shades of midnight and two shades of beige ($799 for a 6x9). Valenncierre also features up to 30 colors, is hand-serged, hand-carved and comes in beige, rust and three varieties of multicolors ($799 for a 6x9).

Oriental Weavers of America

Oriental Weavers will unveil about 75 new rugs and two new collections-Chairman and Benedictine.

The Chairman collection is inspired by ancient silken traditions and is woven in a new polypropylene and nylon blend created by Oriental Weavers. This collection consists of 12-color designs ($349 to $399 for a 6x9). The Benedictine collection, featuring 12-color patterns, is created with two-ply heat-set olefin and a plush pile ($299 for a 6x9).

This year marks the biggest for Samad in both product development and its renewed emphasis on value. The company has created several new hand-woven collections.

The new Blue Diamond collection is Samad's first programmed introduction from China in more than five years.

The Traditions line is hand-knotted and made in India.

Shaw Rugs

Shaw Rugs will highlight two new collections at Atlanta.

The Promenade collection features a colorway of blue, white and yellow and a blend of contemporary, classical and transitional designs. The rugs in Promenade are machine-woven polypropylene ($249.99 for a 5 foot 5 inch x 7 foot 7 inch).

Rugs in the new Nexus collection are woven on Wilcom machines and are 100 percent wool. According to Shaw, they have a hand-made appearance because of their loop construction ($999 for a 5x8).

Six collections will debut in Atlanta. They include: the Orleans collection of four new multi-colored, hand-tufted in China rugs. ($799 for a 4 foot 10 inch x 7 foot by 10 inch). In Sorrento, the Abstract and Stripes rugs are multi-colored, hand-tufted in India and half wool and half cotton ($499 for a 4 foot by 10 inch x 7 foot by 10 inch). The Puzzle, 9 Horizontal, and Stick Border rugs of the new Collage collection are multi-colored, hand-tufted in India and 100 percent wool pile ($399 for a 4 foot by 10 inch x 7 foot by 10 inch).
