Exhibitors unveil updated rug designs in Atlanta

The following is a sampling of what buyers can expect to find at rug manufacturers' showrooms here at this week's market.
Asia Minor is unveiling its new hand-knotted rug titled Plaj. Woven with Ushak knots using fine hand-spun Turkish wool, Plaj features hand-shearing and natural dyes with colors like Madder root red, daisy flower yellow and walnut shell khaki paired with natural, undyed ivory wool.

Capel's leading cotton chenilles will be unveiled as the new casual Woven Collection based on Scandinavian themes of brightly colored stripes in cotton chenille and cotton chenille/wool combinations.
Capel's braid program will get fresh new color combinations in Heather and Faded Rose, two new wool blends for $324 for a 5' x 8'.
Oakley and Evergreen are two new Dick Idol licensed braids and are set at $472 for a 5' x 8'. Two other new Dick Idol designs being introduced are Big Game, set at $812 for a 5' x 8', and Manitoba Bear, set at $372 for a 5' x 8'.

Carpet-Art-Deco's introductions include four new collections.
Essential Elements, which is made of 100 percent New Zealand wool, is set to retail at $599 for a 6' x 9'.
Royal Sensation comprises transitional designs in muted earth tones with silken highlights. It is set to retail at $799 for a 6' x 9'.
Geo is a 100 percent olefin collection made on state-of-the-art precision yarn placement equipment with 100 percent olefin. It is set to retail at $99 for a 6' x 9'.
The Square Dance collection features earth tones and geometric designs. Its suggested retail price is $129 for a 6' x 9'.

Couristan has added two new rugs to its power-loomed line and two rugs to its hand-made line.
To its power-loomed line, Couristan is introducing the Harlequin design — a new black colorway — to its Mirage Collection. It is made in Belgium and is cross-woven on Wilton looms. It is set to retail at $799 for a 5.3' x 8.6'.
Also new to the power-loomed line is the Shirvan collection, made of 100 percent worsted New Zealand wool in Romania. The suggested retail price is $279 for a 5.7' x 8'.
In the handmade line, two new designs will be added to the Chobi collection of hand-woven, vegetable-dyed, hand-spun 100 percent wool rugs. The suggested retail price is $1,599 for a 5.6' x 8'.
Also new in handmades is the Highland collection of hand-knotted rugs made of 70 percent Tibetan and 30 percent New Zealand wools. It features open geometric and abstract designs and has a suggested retail price of $1,238 for a 5.3' x 8.6'.

Central Oriental will be adding Regal Paradise Natural to its existing Regal collection. Paradise is an eight-color, one-million-point-per-square-meter rug that retails at $299 for a 6' x 9'. It features transitional designs in pastel colorways. It is made of 100 percent exellan.

CMI will continue its tradition with Spring Meadow, Botanical Isle and Seascape.
Spring Meadow is 100 percent polypropylene, reversible and oval shaped. The collection is made to be used in the bath or on outdoor porches and patios because its is resistant to water damage, moisture or mildew. It is set at $299 for a 5' x 8'.
Made from 35 percent ultra-soft chenille polypropylene and 65 percent nylon and space-dyed yarns, the Botanical Isle collection is water resistant. It comes in a standard oval shape, is reversible and is set at $299 for a 5' x 8'.
Seascape is a rectangular rug with colorful horizontal braids of patterned fabrics. This 80 percent polypropylene, 10 percent cotton and 10 percent polyester line is reversible and is $499 for a 5' x 8'.

Five new collections will make up Ebisons' introductions.
Reflections features antique adaptations of Agra, Mahal and Sultanabad rugs in gold and bronze. Tatar is a program of woolen, hand-knotted Oushak rugs made in China.
Golden Horizons, a program of Sino Persians, is available in 160-, 200- and 230-line varieties. Katmandu is a collection of transitional, Savonneri and wildlife motifs. And Peshawar comprises antique replicas of Zeigler, Mahal and Sultanabad looks.

The new Marrakesh collection is a complete line of heat-set polypropylene rugs in contemporary and transitional designs. It is made in Brazil and includes more than 30 designs that are set to retail for $99 for a 5' x 8'.
The Wonders of the World collection is hand-tufted in India of 100 percent New Zealand wool and includes up to 14 designs, each retailing for $299 for a 5' x 8'.
The Royal collection of antique Persian and tribal designs is hand-knotted in Pakistan. It comprises more than 30 designs.
And the Shaggy collection of all-natural leather shag strips is hand-woven in India and available in six colorways.

Karastan is adding a new colorway to its Persian Renaissance Collection woven in Belgium with 100 percent New Zealand wool and silk accents. Titled "Black Nain," the new design features a black and taupe color palette.
Karastan's new Rue de Provence comes in four to six patterns and is woven in Belgium with New Zealand wool. It features a palette of seven colors with designs inspired by the Provencal countryside. It is set at $699 for a 6' x 9'.
Expressions also comes in four to six patterns and is woven in Eden, NC, on Karastan's VandeWiele looms. It is made of New Zealand wool and is space dyed, cross-woven and luster-washed — achieving up to 200 colors per rug. A 6' x 9' is set at $599.
The new Original Karastan Collection 700 Series has new Tabriz designs featuring golds and reds. A 6' x 9' is set at $1,099.

Madison is a new line of machine-made flatweave products made out of 100 percent wool. The designs are geometric and simple, and the rugs come in six different sizes from scatter to 8' x 10'. The suggested retail price is $249 for a 6' x 9'.
A new design has been added to the Kala collection of 100 percent wool rugs from India. The new design is titled Kala Northern Reflections Lodge and is a heavy, dense, hook-loop rug that has a suggested retail price of $399 to $499 for a 6' x 9'.
Also new are rugs from the Mystic collection of blended wool, linen and cotton rugs in flat-weave designs. Colors are neutral, and designs are transitional on these reversible rugs.

The company is nearly doubling its runner program by adding 300 skus to its existing Jeravan, Mossoul, Pergame, and Mahajeran collections — all of which carry the Wools of New Zealand brand.
Louis de Poortere is also launching four new runner lines — Vincenzo, a Wools of New Zealand brand series; Antalia Cordal; Richelieu; and Classics. The company is coloring its runners in new colors, blue and taupe, as well as adding new sizes to select items in the Jeravan and Mossoul collections. To showcase its extensive runner line at retail, Louis de Poortere is launching the Louis Organizer display. It allows retailers to feature up to 240 samples in a host of sizes, colors and patterns and allows consumers to take advantage of the company's coordinating line of runners, rugs and broadloom as well as its fabrication options.

Milliken's new Innovations collection comprises 50 designs selected from nine different collections, all available in five colors and nine sizes for a total of 2,250 new skus. Price points range from $149 to $299 for a 6' x 9'. Selected design favorites from the borders, botanical, contemporary, floral, skins, traditional, transitional and tribal lines are included in the new Innovations collection. In addition, there will be selections from Milliken's new Casual collection, inspired by the latest trend of casual lifestyles.

Mohawk is focusing its efforts on expanding on its most successful existing lines.
In printed rugs, Mohawk is making many new additions. The Cheri Blum line of licensed rugs will grow to 20 offerings from nine, including Christmas designs. Also, the Chris Madden collection of licensed rugs will be launched. Also new in printed rugs will be 15 looks in novelty designs.
In woven rugs, Mohawk will expand its opening price-point line Essentials and its higher-end Velvet Impressions collection, each with 10 to 15 new patterns.

New contemporary offerings from the Guild, Java and New Wave collections use browns, lavenders, rusts and blacks in new transitional styles from the Tibet, Kashan and Maison groups. Among its traditional designs, Momeni will introduce a wide variety of designs to choose from in the Concord collection of wool and silk rugs, as well as the Filigree, Sarouq and Harmony collections.
Momeni will also offer a new high-quality jute collection named Bali in earth tone colors, and four hand-tufted collections from China and India, some using Tibetan constructions and some in traditional designs.

Natco is introducing a new design to its existing Jamila collection. Retailing for $99 for a 6' x 9', the rug is 100 percent polypropylene made of a heavyweight poly drop stitch construction with point-on-point tufting.

The Nourison 2000 collection of Persian and European designed, wool-pile and silk highlighted rugs will get five new designs in multiple colors; ruby, light green, lavender and navy. Also new for Nourison 2000 is a new shape — octagon.

Orian's new Aegean Eggplant rug is from the company's Enchantment Collection, comprising rugs constructed of 100 percent TextraSoft yarn, which is a specially treated, two-ply, heat-set, polypropylene yarn that has a soft feel like cotton. This product line is set at $199 for a 6' x 9'.
Orian has also added new styles to all of its collections, from Interlude, which is a 400 reed high-end product, through the Polynaise Collection, an entry-level BCF product. For all five of Orian's collections there are more than 20 new styles and colorations.

In the hand-knotted Classics, Obeetee is introducing the higher-knottage Cypress and Raja Collections. The Cypress Collection, in European hand-spun wool, has a suggested retail price of $3,499 for a 6' x 9'.
The Raja Collection, made of 100 percent New Zealand wool, uses pastels and complex designs and is set to retail at $2,899 for a 6' x 9'.
In the Home line, Obeetee is introducing six new collections, including Morgan Wallace, $449 for a 5' x 8', which uses wool and silk to achieve contemporary designs; and Liberty, which is made of 100 percent New Zealand wool and features intricate designs, is set at $749 for a 6' x 9'.

Oriental Weavers of America (OWA) and licensor Raymond Waites together are launching two new collections: Vintage and Vintage Court.
The Vintage collection is woven of 100 percent heat-set olefin and is available in a variety of updated colorways. The collection features unique animal prints, florals and contemporary patterns. The suggested retail price for a 6' x 9' is $299.
The Vintage Court collection is made up of patterns woven with nylon and OWA's patented Nylene yarn system. These patterns are also available in a wide range of colors and are mixed with both fringed and surged designs. The patterns are contemporary and transitional designs. Suggested retail price for a Vintage Court 6' x 9' is $399.
