Costco Merchant Named President

Costco has promoted Craig Jelinek to president and chief operating officer. He will also join the board of directors.

Jelinek has served as executive vp of merchandising since 2004. He has spent more than 25 years at the company and more than 35 in the warehouse club business.

Jim Sinegal will continue as ceo. A new office of the president will be run by Sinegal, Jelinek and chairman Jeff Brotman to steer major company direction.

ShopNBC Names New President

ShopNBC has hired Bob Ayd as president, overseeing merchandising, planning, programming, broadcast operations, and on-air talent.

He reports to ceo Keith Stewart.

In Ayd’s 30-year career he most recently served as executive vp and chief merchandising officer after previously holding the positions senior vp of design development, global sourcing and brand development, and senior vp of jewelry and fashion. Earlier in his career, at Macy’s, Ayd held a number of executive positions, including senior vp of women’s sportswear.

Stein Mart Names Morrow Chief Merchant

Macy’s vet Brian Morrow joined Stein Mart as executive vp and chief merchandising officer of Stein Mart.

He was most recently senior vp and general merchandising manager at Macy’s West. Prior to that, he served in the same position at Mervyn’s and Macy’s North/Marshall Field’s.

His 25-year retail career also includes postings at Robinsons-May/Meier & Frank.

At Stein Mart, he will oversee merchandising as well as planning/allocation.

“With his depth of industry knowledge and demonstrated leadership, Brian brings a fresh focus to our merchandising organization that will benefit our customers as we move forward,” said David Stovall Jr., president and ceo.
